Major Appliances

Through the Home Appliance Retirement Program (HARP), Winnipeggers can permanently retire their unwanted, energy inefficient home appliances in a convenient and environmentally safe manner by simply calling the HARP Hotline at 257-1212

 

Any major appliance – washers, dryers, fridges, stoves, even water heaters – qualifies for free pickup within Winnipeg. Once arrangements have been made, a representative of the Kidney Foundation will pick up the appliance and safely recycle it free of charge.

 

Materials

ArtsJunktion mb collects materials from businesses and individuals which are destined for the dump, and redistributes them to anyone who would like to use them.

 

It is a great place to find free materials for art projects, science experiments, sewing projects and many other purposes as well.

Mattress

Bulky Items such as mattresses and box springs will not be picked up with your regular garbage collection.

Magazines & Catalogues

Magazines & Catalogues Junk mail can be recycled through the city's Blue box recycling program.

 

Medicine Cabinets

Medicine Cabinets will be accepted at Habitat for Humanity Re-Store.

 

Medical Waste or Medicine

Check with your pharmacy to see if they will accept medical waste. If you are unsure about proper disposal, please contact the city for more information at 204-986-5858.

 

Mercury

Items such as: button batteries, fluorescent lamps, temperature thermometers, thermostats and switches in various appliances contain mercury. Homeowners can take these items to Miller Environmental Corporation for free disposal.

 

Metal Items

To donate step ladders, shelving units, shovels, rakes contact the Zoological Society of Manitoba at 204-982-0664 or drop your donations off at the Zoo Gift Shop during regular business hours, seven days a week.

 

Microwaves

Microwaves will be accepted at these e-waste management firms throughout the year.

 

Moldings

Moldings will be accepted at Habitat for Humanity Re-Store.

 

Motor Oil & Oil Filters

Motor oil is a toxic substance and should never be disposed of down the drain. Used oil can be reprocessed and used again.  See where to bring your used motor oil and oil filters.

 

Musical Instruments

Donate your unwanted musical instruments to the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra (MCO) through their “strings ‘n things” program. They will provide you with a tax receipt. Please contact Manitoba Chamber Orchestra at (204) 783-7377 for additional information.
