Green Building

The Concept

Buildings account for large portions of the use of energy and water in a community, as well as produce much of the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change and global warming issues. The challenge is to find and develop new methods of building that place less strain on the environment and infrastructure of its surroundings. By producing and promoting green building techniques, Manitoba aims to become a leader in the use of green building.

Mabitoba Green Building Directories

The "Manitoba Green Building Directories" was established in April 2010/11 to support the development of a sustainable building industry in Manitoba. It is a cooperative effort between Green Manitoba and the Manitoba Chapter, Canada Green Building Council.

The Directory Scope

The focus of these Directories is on products and services suitable for use in the construction, renovation or operation of commercial and institutional buildings in Manitoba. Some of these products/services may be suitable for other building types (e.g. residential, industrial, agricultural).

Who Should Use this Directory

This Directory is targeted at the following Manitoba-based users:

þ      Design professionals (e.g. architects, engineers, interior designers)

þ      Sustainability consultants and environmental coordinators

þ      General contractors and sub-contractors

þ      Building developers, owners and operators

þ      Building officials

Although not designed as a teaching tool, this Directory can also be used as a resource by educators and students at post-secondary institutions that have programs related to buildings.
