The Climate Project Canada (TCPC)

Recently, Green Manitoba partnered with The Climate Project Canada (TCPC) (climateprojectcanada.org) to send three educators from Manitoba to Nashville Tenn. to receive training to present new and updated information that Al Gore introduced with "An Inconvenient Truth". The focus has shifted include not only better science but more forward thinking solutions and grassroots ideas.

What is The Climate Project Canada?

The Climate Project Canada is a non-profit organization that serves as the Canadian component of a global movement of more than 3,000 diverse and dedicated volunteers from around the world. These volunteers have been personally trained by former US Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore to educate the public about the science and impacts of climate change as well as solutions to address the climate crisis. Climate Project presenters have already delivered presentations to over five million people worldwide.

The presenters are volunteers and there is no cost for the presentation. However there are travel and accommodations costs associated with bringing a presenter out to your community, business or school. If covering the costs of the Manitoba-based presenter to come to your community are prohibitive, please contact Green Manitoba at 204-945-3268.

Community Resources

þ      Community Places Program

The Community Places Program provides funding and planning assistance to non-profit community organizations for facility construction, upgrading, expansion or acquisition projects. Eligible projects are those which provide sustainable recreation and wellness benefits to communities.

þ      EcoAction

EcoAction encourages project submissions that will protect, rehabilitate or enhance the natural environment, and build the capacity of communities to sustain these activities into the future. Projects require matching funds or in-kind support from other sponsors. Non-profit groups are eligible to apply to the program. This includes, but is not limited to: community groups, environmental groups, aboriginal groups and First Nations councils.

þ      Heritage Grants Program

The Heritage Grants Program has been developed to assist Manitobans in identifying, protecting and interpreting the province's human and natural heritage.

þ    Environmental Youth Corps (EYC)

Want to do something good for the environment in your community? Like plant trees, clean up a riverbank, or help increase habitat for wildlife? The Environmental Youth Corps (EYC) program can help!

Community Outreach & Education

þ      Climate Change Connection is a hub for information about climate change in Manitoba. We are managed by the Manitoba Eco-Network and are governed by a Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is co-chaired by the Manitoba Eco-Network and the University of Winnipeg.

Climate Change Connection provides "Healthy Communities Don't Idle" traffic signs free of charge to encourage the reduction of unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions.

Community workshops

Since 2002, Climate Change Connection has provided one-day workshops for 13 different communities across Manitoba. Representatives from a variety of relevant sectors were invited, including provincial, municipal and civic governments, agriculture, energy, health, education, industry and First Nations. Community Workshops on Climate Change have three objectives:

þ      Educate participants about climate change science, impacts, and solutions

þ      Engage participants to take action

þ      Support participants by providing the ideas, resources, and contacts to take action in their communities and to further educate others
